What is prostate and its function?

What is the prostate?

The prostate is a gland of male reproductive system. The prostate lies on the anterior wall of the rectum, closely under the urinary bladder. The prostate is sized like a walnut. The prostate is crossed by the urethra leading urine out of the urinary bladder.

The main function of the prostate is production of fluid for sperm (ejaculate), which forms a medium for the best motility of sperms and their capacity to fertilize the egg. Right before male orgasm the pelvis muscles have eject an ejaculate from the prostate to the urethra. Similarly sperms created in testis are during an orgasm ejected together with fluid from prostate into the urethra.
